DocuSign Gen for Salesforce

Background

DocuSign Gen for Salesforce (Gen) is a DocuSign product that lets sales reps generate custom contracts with a single click, right in Salesforce.

Challenges & approach

Before

After

1: Avoid an identity crisis

This integrated experience is for a DocuSign product that lives in the Salesforce interface. It also pulls components from 2 DocuSign products: eSignature and CLM.

With so many products in the mix, I:

  • Improved clarity by eliminating jargon while preserving established terms, like “merge field values”

  • Validated the accuracy of all the terms by cross-referencing product documentation and syncing with product owners

  • Added more context to help users confidently make informed decisions

Before

After

2: Let components pull their weight

I noticed that the components of the earlier mocks made it difficult to visually distinguish the steps of the flow. After jamming with the designer, we developed components that not only let users easily progress through the task, but also segmented and added structure to the different steps.

3: A good thing about repetition

I established content patterns so users can easily scan and navigate through the flow. This pattern was made up of:

  • Directive headers that led with action

  • Descriptions that showcased impact and value

  • Decision points positioned at the end of each step

Placing the decision points at the end of each step resulted in a more reassuring experience. With this pattern, users aren’t prompted to make a decision before reviewing critical information for each step. This also conveniently removed the need for disruptive tooltips or links.

Result

A scannable and guided experience that encourages users to make informed decisions.
